The amp is set to be able to pick up the "tap" which sounds without the string being struck by the right hand ...so if you are clever you can play two aspects at once say bass with the right hand and "tapp" the melody with the left hand.
He is not the best "tapper" out there and most tap with the guitar in normal position.
Its not that hard if you use an amp and although doable with an acoustic it takes effort.

Alex,

I know about tapping; there is a very good one-handed bass player out there who, obviously, does nothing else. What I am wondering about is him playing overhanded when he is plucking or strumming with his right hand. I think it might be to get an unusual chord shape but I'm not really sure.

Alex, you missed the pun, "grate" as in grates on your ears. I think his voice is awful.

I thought it was a pun at first but I thought that, as rsre as it may be, you may have made a mistake.

But certainly grate is the way I see his singing...not that I could have done better.

Anyways I dont want to compain I just turn him off.

Well there are cord shapes I could not manage with three hands ☺.

I find it all depressing as I dont have any talent even after more than fifty years trying☺

I will stick to doing what I do best...nothing☺

Cool guitar playing Dave. Maybe that kid will get there one day. Some people just have that spark.

Perhaps you are now sufficiently infirmed to be able to join the Rolling Stones. Have you seen Keith Richards fingers?

I it a wonder he has a bidy left at all from the stories of his lack of restraint over the years.

The front man from Radio Birdman has that spark so it is not just guitar players. And his more recent band is about as tight as it is possible to be.

Maybe it is passion and control at the same time, I don’t know.

Maybe Alex could do Django . He was long on passion and short on fingers.
