Centaurus A

I started trying to capture Centaurus A

30 @ 5min Iso1600
1 @ 3m14s Iso1600
Total integration 2hr 33min 14s
Darks and Flats plus some dithering did a great job getting the dust on my sensor.

I have to admit, I'm not that happy so far. Perhaps it's the light pollution and the moon being out (64%illum) reducing contrast, or maybe the CLS CCD filter is not great for galaxies? (It cuts 520-640nm completely as well as blues and violet below 460nm).
I also wish I did a bit more noise reduction at the start of processing but i consider this just a test.

This is my first time using 5min exposures, I'm slowly reducing flexure.

Take some time to praise yourself for all you did right.
It is a great image.
Under a dark sky it would come out exceptional.
I would be very happy with such a fine result.
Sydney sucks☺

Thankyou very much Alex!
Hopefully I can get some more exposures this Saturday night along with Eta Carinae! The moon will be hiding a bit more

Fantastic image of Centaurus A from light polluted Sydney
I don’t use a CLS filter in my Canon 600D when I’m in Sydney, just straight off the sensor at prime focus
Startools does a great job removing all types of gradients and noise
Give it a try
I’m testing my new rig ( 8” f5 newt on a EQ6-R mount ) on Sunday night in Sydney and have chosen Centaurus A as my test target
See how we go
Keep up the great work
Cheers

Thanks very much Martin.
Startools looks very interesting, I've bookmarked it and will give it a go when I have a bit more data worth playing with during the trial period.

Congrats on the new gear!
The EQ6-r is fantastic!
