OK found the example I'm thinking of.

Google "Telescope built into house" and this should turn up a preview of page 175 of the book "Unusual Telescopes" by Peter Manly. figure 7.25 shows the arrangement.

You could invert this with a roof opening on the south side so the mirror has good coverage of the ecliptic, this would give a good view of moon and planets, orion etc.

It could also be arranged with the scope horizontal so that the mirror operates in an el-al mode which is similar to an alt-az inverted. El-al is rare but I cant help suspecting a GOTO alt-az mount could be made to work this way with no more than some mechanical surgery.
