Not many early ones left now Alex, and I imagine the members wouldn't want
to see images that have been posted here over the last two or three years.

Lovely image of Centaurus A
By the way what camera did you use on your 8” f5 for most of these wonderful short exposure images
I noticed most of them are set at ISO 1600

Very good. A lot of detail for 30 sec shots. Must be a lot of careful set up to get that.

Cheers Alex, Martin, and Ray.

Martin, 1100D, which had slightly better Ha sensitivity than my current 600D,
but unfortunately did not have an articulated LCD screen. At $297 new with
18-55mm lens, a real bargain. 1600 is the sweet spot for the 1100D. I never
used anything lower than that due to the short subs, and sometimes used 3200
on cold winter nights.

Ray, no careful set up, just usual Synscan PA alignment.

I had a look at some comparative data for the Canon 1100D and 600D in regard to astrophotography
Canon 600D
Sensor APS-C 18 megapixel
Pixel size 4.2 micron
Quantum efficiency 40%
Read noise at ISO 800. 3.3
Read noise at ISO 1600. 2.9

Canon 1100D
Sensor APS-C. 12 megapixel
Pixel size 5.1 micron
Quantum efficiency 35%
Read noise at ISO 800. 4.4
Read noise at ISO 1600. 3.1

There’s not a big difference between both models but the 600D has better SNR than the 1100D
I couldn’t find any data on the Ha sensitivity for both models but from my experience to date ( 2 years ) with my 600D I have no intention of modding the camera as I am very satisfied with the Ha response from imaging Nebula and other DSO’s

Cheers

I don't have any data regarding Ha sensitivity, just know that my 600 shows
less Ha on a given image than my 1100 did. One would expect that your data
would be better overall[only slightly at 1600] for the 600, given that it is about three times the price. The 1100 is a great budget start for those wishing to dip their toes into DSLR AP.
