Sydney sky tonight

Looks like it's going to be clear and the seeing should be better than last time it was clear. Fingers crossed. I want to get some sharp planet photos for a change

That is around the time it gets to maximum altitude, above 50 degrees close to midnight, crossing the Meridian.

That's right. That'd be nice if the forecast holds.

Some pretty nasty instability coming fast from the SW. Might not be a go.

It has just started raining up here, looks like it is going to hang around. I am scrubbed for tonight.

Lots of high level junk here, not to mention a plethora of blowing pollen - especially damned Poplar "cottonwood" pollen - fills up your car if you leave the windows down!

I have been in hayfever hell all day - still am.

I've actually bit the bullet and setup. It's clear and quite steady. Just a little bit of high level haze out south and west. Ahead's ok. I got some good streams on Jupiter and Saturn. It's going a little wobbly just now but still a lot better than my last session. Mars is rising. Fingers crossed.

Well the rain blew away and it has cleared to a wonderful night here. I will head out to the observatory later.

Bit of passing clouds at the moment but it's clear behind. Got a fair bit on Mars now. Some look sharp and all of a sudden it goes like a blurry bouncing blob, then sharp again. Maybe because it's lower or the seeing is worse north east of here.

Saturn looks definitely better tonight as I could see a hint of the encke division in some of the stacks.

Just packed up while it's still dry and clouds are rolling in. Seeing was good at times at the beginning of the evening. Not as good as expected when I went to Mars. I put an IR filter on the camera and that helped. The 462MC seems to behave almost like a mono over 740nm. I could get ~15000 frames in 90s @170fps histo at 75%

I found Mars disappointing tonight, even at its peak altitude, but the sky generally had the wobbles here on the coast. Had better nights earlier this week.

I normally don't do planets but seeing looked very good tonight late around 1400UTC in Sydney and I had another go at Mars. This is my best shot: C14 prime focus, ZWO MCI 120MC camera, 8000 frames AS!2 Autostekker, Registax 6. What do you think?

Yeah, looks liked what I saw, without the wobbles. Got to love frame stacking.

Still a little far in the forecast but it's shaping up to be clear this week-end, possibly even up to Monday night in Sydney. Seeing forecast is not too shabby either. And it's close to a new moon too. What could possibly go wrong?
