slow, bright meteor below cloud level

At around 6:15am this morning in Sale, Victoria, my daughter and I both caught sight an amazing, bright meteor after it broke through the clouds near the moon. It streaked slowly across the sky with a trail behind it for around 8 seconds. It first appeared breaking through the clouds near the moon and travelled a good 6-7 hand spans across the sky at arm's length before we lost it behind buildings in the South West.

I'm curious as to how low it may have been and how often meteors this bright and slow are seen below clouds?

That must have been very exciting. That is one you will remember for a long time.

It was likely bright enough to see through the clouds, giving the *illusion* of being below the clouds. How thick was the cloud deck?

It possibly could have been space junk if it lasted so long (8 secs) and travelled so slowly.
