Lagoon Nebula

Hi all,

Here is a rendition of the Lagoon Nebula. I’ve been dealing with some mount issues recently and this set of data was no different. Rather than put it all in the bin, I thought I’d take on the challenge of making average data look half reasonable. Because of this, this image is maybe more artistic than I would normally do. I have however learned some interesting processing techniques which I think will benefit me when I collect better data. So here it is

68 x 180 sec subs
Canon 350D Astro modified @ iso400
HEQ5 Pro guided
8” Newtonian F/4
STC Duo filter

Thanks for looking

Ryan

I really like this image of your Lagoon
It has a different orientation, usually framed longitudinal but yours is on a slight axis
Also heaps of detail in the nebulosity fields
Stars tight and round
Colours look great too
Well done !!!

Thank you Martin. Pretty high praise for an image that really was just an attempt to make bad data look good. I can’t help but think it’s a little oversaturated too compared to the low saturation surrounding it. I did that to make the guts of the neb a highlight while the outside was pulled back to hide a shed load of imperfections.

Cheers

Ryan
