Can Food Sharing Transmit the Virus

Hi Guys just out of interest can one catch this virus that is going around through food sharing.

For example if my friend/neighbour bakes a cake or similar, when it is cool, cuts it in half, places it on a plate and covers it in Glad Wrap and then brings it over to your place.

I for one am absolutely vigilant in my cleanliness, hand washing and all the required suggestions from the experts on this matter.

So is this cake/food safe to eat I think not, what are your thoughts.

Leon

Yes, technically, food sharing, including the scenario you describe, can transmit Covid-19.

I guess, if you can be confident that your neighbour has no symptoms (especially coughing) and washed his/her hands in the correct manner for at least 20 seconds immediately prior to cutting and handling the cake, and before handling the plate and using the Glad Wrap (neither of which had been handled by anyone for some days prior to this), then you might be okay. Or, you could elect to leave the cake on its plate as is until it goes all stale and mouldy, by which time the viral particles would have decayed and you will probably be okay.

Bon appétit!

No, the virus cannot be transmitted through food, if you are worried transfer the food to one of your plates wash the neighbours plates whilst washing your hands. The virus cannot be transmitted through food.

Nik is correct. This idea was debunked by a chief health official recently. However, it can survive on surfaces, which could include Glad Wrap, plates, etc.
And Leon, how is your example any different from Dominos Pizza delivering to your house? In Dominos case the box would be suspect, but I know they wear gloves when preparing the pizza and put it in the box using a big flat blade spatula.

I think you mean the virus is not contracted through ingestion but I'd be pretty certain it will happily live on food if it can live on money. So if it is on the food and you manage to inhale it or it is left on your mouth and you inhale it then I suspect it could be transmitted.

If it was a particularly tempting cake Leon, remove from plate, put on baking dish, heat in oven on 80 degrees for 30 mins. Eat

(I guess this plan falls apart pretty quick if she iced it too)

Would not worry me Rob

Been in isolation for 13 days now.
Every M&M and Jelly Bean in Brisbane should be very afraid right now.

Just a note, neither Woolworths nor Coles would deliver to us. We got local IGA shops involved.

We are Mandatory isolation seniors with impared immune systems.
We don't know why we got ignored cos they don't answer emails or phone calls. Not a good look for the fresh food people.

We were in asia when all this 5hit when down. Cost da bomb to get home.

Eerr. The link actually says “ unlikely” .

The link is talking about prepared food which is otherwise clean, cooked and healthy on sanitised serving.

So maybe , as usual, it depends and there are many qualifiers.

No second chances when you may end up with viral pneumonia and intubated for weeks however “ unlikely” .

They tried to send him to Tasmania for work but he got a mystery illness and didn't go, then they locked their borders.

Another 35 minutes and it's over. Friends have been dropping stuff in, but stuff like milk you need constantly and it's a bit much to expect people to keep delivering. Of course it looks like Woolies is delivering here now.

Prolly, yeah.

If your neighbour has the virus, and he/she is a non-hand-washing, sitting-on-public-toilet kind of person, I would strictly avoid eating it. It can even spread in places that are supposed to be super clean:
