Deep Space with a Toucam

Last night was a fairly good night, with 9/10 Trans but 5/10 seeing. I was not to be deterred!

Deep Space was calling (so was the EQ6 & Toucam).

I spent from 10pm till 3:30 am and took over 80 images.

These are the best I could get with the bad seeing and a Full Moon.

All images are captured in 'Desire' with Modified Toucam 840k Pro II, ED80, and EQ6 with Synscan. Oh, and perfect polar alignment

They certainly aren't up there with DSLR images, but I think the Toucam worked hard and did well for a small Webcam.

1. 47 Tuc @ 15 seconds
2. Carina @ 30 seconds
3. M42 @ 25 seconds
4. Omega Cent @ 15 seconds
5. Omega Cent @ 25 seconds

Very nice Ken. Excellent work with the ToUcam

I'd have to agree with Mike. Carina is very good. Is there any way you could push the curves and/or levels just to bring out the neb just a fraction more?

Matt, I know how to fiddle with levels, but I have no idea what 'curves' do

It's a Photoshop thing, Ken.

I'm not entirely sure either, but I keep reading the other DSO guys talking about adjusting 'em to help bring out nebulosity

well done ken

its not about how much money you have to throw at the hobby you know, its more about how much fun you're having and how much you can leverage what you have in terms of gear

And if the sky behaves!

I am looking forward to learning how to ring longer exposures out of the Modded Toucam. I reckon it can still get a lot more detail. At the moment my shots are still yuk from Pilot error. 30 seconds is the Max so far before all the stars balloon out. I'll get there

As someone who has given up on long exposure with the toucam (due to tracking and lack of widefield) , i am mightily impressed with what you have accomplished.

excellent stuff ken, never thought it could be done...........and yet here is proof!

Wow! They may not be in the same league as a 350D or the like, but I think they have done a better job at deep sky than a 350D would do taking a shot of Jupiter...unless you like planetary shots with 2 pixels!
