Huteck dropin LPF and Astronomic dropin UHC filiters for DSLRs

Recently someone here mentioned their problems with internal reflections and or vignetting due their Huteck dropin LPF.

They opted to replace it with a big Huteck LPF front filter.

Just want to get a handle on how satisfied others here are with either their Huteck LPF dropins or Astronomic UHC dropins from their experiences with these.

It will help me decide which way to go ie
- option a ... Huteck LPF dropin for my 40D
- option b ... Huteck front style LPF (probably 77mm diameter)
- option c ... Astronomic UHC dropin for my 40D

I still plan on getting a Lumicon 2" DSF as well (for prime focus stuff).

Well you know what I think Ian - the drop in filter was a pain in the A on my 40D. It created an internal reflection when used with both 50mm f1.8 and 70-200mm f4L lenses - and as such it couldn't be processed out as you might with flats etc. And, as stated in your opening thread, I replaced it with a 72mm screw in filter - I'm very happy with the performance now.
The only drawback is that I have needed to get 52-72mm and 67-72mm step up rings to attach the filter to each lens - but they were about $9 each through ebay.

I believe my problems came from the proximity of the rear elements of the camera lenses causing the reflections, and I think that scope users may not get this problem.

Good luck
Doug

I voted for the drop in filter, as I thought the thread refered to the drop in filters that one uses at the rear of some of the larger Canon Lenses, sorry, But I can't retract my vote.

I use an astronomiks CLS clip but have never used it with a lens which is where the problem lies. I also have a Hutech VLC-FF1 clip which I do use with a lens for daytime photos and it works fine. I use both in a modified canon 40D.

[edit]
I buggered it up too .. I use a CLS not a UHC filter from astronomiks.
