Making G&G binoscope w/tak foa-60 or 76

Hi Everyone,

Just looking for some help making a binoscope.
I'm looking at using 2 foa-60's or fc-76's. Id like to make it very portable but still considering both these scopes.

I really like the idea of viewing with both eyes, but keeping the scope at its maximum potential without the loss.
Any input would be greatly appreciated!

I have a few questions:

Is the difference between the binoscope and binoviewer large enough to justify the cost of a binoscope?

Where do I start with the bracket to mount and align them? I was hoping that I could get one custom made, but where from?

Hi Josh,
To make a binoscope from a pair of FOA60s, you will need a pair of EMS-US visual backs from Tatsuro Matsumoto, 2 sets of 68mm K-Astec 68mm tube rings from Sakabe-san at Kyoei-Osaka and a BB130 cradle from Beat Kohler at AOK-Swiss.
The resolving ability of a 60mm binoscope is the same as a single but apparent image brightness and image size is much better, about the same as a single eyepiece in a 100mm scope.

Using a binoviewer in a 4” Refractor gives a dimmer image than the 60 bino.

Thanks for that Matt! I was hoping to find you here

Still having the tough decision between the two scopes though.. Best portability vs extra aperture

a cheaper option is 4 x baader 32mm prism diagonals, and 2 gso dovetail brackets.this is what i use for my 6 inch binoscope.if your focuser has enough inward travel you could try the orion 1 1/4 inch enhanced mirror diagonals.they are a little cheaper than prisms +adapters.
