Meade LX200 makes jerky movements in Az

I have a Meade LX200 14GPS (circa 2003) set up in Alt/Az mode. Voltage is 13.8.

Anyway, when I did a 2 star alignment in Easy mode, both axis move to the 1star and shortly after, I centred and Entered that star.

Now it selects its 2nd star, but this time, the Alt. axis moves not a full slew upwards like it did in the 2star align. and the Az makes short, jercky movements with a 'zeet' 'zeet' zeet' sound. I quickly switch off the power.

DC voltage is as above, 13.8.

Why should the Az move smoothly in the first instance but not in the 2nd? I have never seen this anomy before.

Could it be the power panel board needs replacing, the RA motor, or what?

Thanks,

Jim
