I am looking for a good printer to print my Astro Photo's. I have a Canon bubble jet printer (cheapie from AusPost) but no matter what I cannot seem to get what's on the paper to look like the picture on the screen.
I have tried all sorts of paper, Photographic Matt/Gloss etc.
Can anyone suggest a reasonably good printer? And it certainly don't look like the output pictures on the box.
First and foremost, your screen must be calibrated.
To a great degree, but, somewhat of a lesser extent, you need to get your printer profiled, especially when using exotic papers.
At the very least, if you're using good quality paper, most manufacturer's web sites provide you with ICC profiles that you can point the printer driver to.
You also need to print a proof sheet or two to see what's going to come out of the printer will actually match what's on screen. If too dark, adjust midtones in the positive, and try again.
When I make prints, I print several smaller proofs and then when I'm happy send the final corrected and sharpened image to the beast.
Ok thanks for the info. I will look at calibrating the monitor as soon as I figure out how to and try again. I will look at the canon website and see if I can find the ICC files you refer to. I have access to a plotter as well so will look at that avenue.
