All they needed to do, was move that control handle 180 degrees from where it is, remove the EQ shaft and weight, and it would have been a tolerably accurate toy.
Not completely accurate, mind, but simply good enough so there's no glaringly obviously stupid errors, and such errors being present is currently the case.

I.e. an actual scope from the black list mentioned in another thread
Just imagine how the expectations of girls could improve if all dolls came with a telescope or some other item that gives them a better view of how their future could be...the conditioning of children is so subtle we do not notice...rather than make fun of the Barbie telescope thing why not support it ...it is wonderful...imagine a set of Barbie's..each with a particular scope..reflectors and refractors...maybe add a narrow band camera.

Always the optimist Alex.. I don't think there is anything subtle at all about how society conditions children.
I agree with you completely mate.. it's time society stopped dictating what girls or boys should or shouldn't be or aspire to be...

I was looking more at making the mount, somewhat usable. I was thinking of how to turn the mount into a reasonable looking ALT-AZ, instead of a screwed up faking of an EQ mount.
As near as I can tell, the scope they were trying to re-create for the doll, is the Bresser National Geographic NG114, a 114mm x 500mm EQ Newt.
Here's an Ebay link to one.
And yes, like you noted, it is on the black list.

Haven't they just matched the unrealistic scope with the unrealistic proportions of the operator ?
