I have an old Astromaster sitting in the top of a closet, which i have kept simply because it has no value to sell and perhaps i can mod it, but i don't like throwing away a scope. The Starview i have no direct experience with but from the website they look nearly the same. If they are equal in sll aspects go with the larger apeture, would be my advice. If it is a gift for a youngster then i would consider something easier to use, like a small dobsonian.

Hi Simmo
I note you have posted similar queries on multiple threads. You will find you get better answers if you give us a bit more details, for example links to where the items you are looking at are advertised, how much experience you have, what you are trying to do with it etc.

I agree with Malcom, Simmo, it all depends of what you want to do with it and if you have actually used a Scope, and/or experience.
But you have come to the right place for good advice and many experienced members.

Gday guys . More info .
Looking on gumtree & facebook marketplace . No experience. Want to look at moon , planets & anything else i can with gaining more experience. Budget in $400-$500. Have been looking for the last 2 months & have not seen any dobsonian for sale . Was 1 at a cash converters store a 10" $499 but was rusty on every metal piece on outside and mirror on inside did not look very good (dirty or worn all round edges) .
