The Mods are busy enough without second guessing every decision they make and they cut us a lot of slack anyway - best to just accept their decisions and move on. I'm not bothered if they scrap any of my posts and they sometimes do.
Removing a post or thread for politically correct reasons is actually censorship. To silence criticism is to silence freedom. A post or thread should only be removed if it is CLEARLY and PROVEN to be wrong or defamatory(same thing.) Believe it or not, some people like a good old electronic joust on non-astronomy issues. At least a cyberstouch will not break any bones or leave you with a black eyepiece.
The Mods very generously let us go out of bounds on a regular basis, but there are no grounds for complaint when they do remove a post outside the TOS. If we start paying them $80000 a year we might be able to hold them to account
Did you appreciate the irony of a Fun Tax thread being axed?
I deleted your thread, Trevor, after consultation with Mike and RB. When a thread contains more posts about the thread being banned than the original topic and we receive reports about it, and criticism for not moderating, its not far from spam.
Enjoy it while it lasts.

Reason: typo
Just be thankful that the rissholes in charge that think up another one of their 'hair-brained' tax's and find a way to tax my enjoyment of the night sky , they will probably call it something like Hmmmm ,, ',,,, "Astrology TAX" or something stupid like that ,,,
Don't worry Matt , its only a phase mate , like a rash it will pass soon enough and we can get back to discussing astrology . .

I wish I could remove the entire "General Chat" section, seems almost every time I check it the topic is something that should not even be there (TOS violations)
The header for that area states: General astronomy chat ......yeah right !!
That had similarly crossed my mind.
I've seen it done on another forum - their "general chat" equivalent was hidden temporarily to impress upon people that posting was a privilege not a right.
vBulletin actually allows fine-grained control. For example, offenders could be barred from one section but permitted in others, if the forum is set up that way, which isn't hard to do. Those penalties can be temporary, too. There are other types of sanctions and controls as well.
You guys need to read THE HEADING AGAIN , CAREFULLY .
its titled 'General Chat' , not 'Astronomy General Chat' that's what the whole IIS website is for , this is 'General Chat' it has its rules on politics and religion that's all .
Every other astro site I have ever looked in has one , its a place where we can chat about , well? , general stuff .
