Ngc 891

It has been a long wait the last few months, I have tried and missed, then just plain missed opportunities to see this galaxy, last night I finally bagged it.

Observing with the 18" at High Range 20km west of Mittagong, transparency was good but seeing dreadful. NGC rises only 13 degrees above the horizon at this location, 891 was seen when west of north so slightly away from the glow from Sydney. This is not an easy target, it is large but diffuse and faint, but nonetheless, the elongation was apparent the shape could be traced fairly well in the 17.3 Delos (118x).

Rising higher galaxy 925 was real easy to spot despite being over a magnitude dimmer.
Has anyone else observed NGC 891 from a latitude south of Sydney and how did you find it?

I might also add that the horsehead in Orion was real easy last night, and I don't own any nebula filters.
