QLD--Camera Repairs... Know a good one??

I have come in possession of my late grandfathers camera. It's a 1962 Pentax SV SLR with 2 lens, light guard, light meter and the leather carry cases to carry them. Picture acttached There is also a telescopic lens that was bought somewhere along the way as well.
Well I chucked in a roll of film and low and behold it's stilll takes great pictures except for the shudder gets stuck open on it's return by about 3 mm.
I looked and noticed the shudder has got a crease in it :-(. I'd love to get this camera fixed but I took it to the local camera shop who rang pentax and they said there is no spare parts for it.
So i am asking IIS do they any good camera places , like a family business thats been around for years , where I could take it them and see what they say.

Thank you for reading

Perhaps you should have a look at ebay.. try and find body only that can be cannibalised for parts.

It might be worth giving Photo Continental at Mt Gravatt a call

They are a pretty helpful bunch and certainly know their stuff.

Good luck.

I had a really old Praktica SLR that needed some repair. Pretty sure this is the guy I was recommended http://www.yellowpages.com.au/online...z=&productId=0

FWIW he said that parts were usually the problem and probably cost more than what the camera was worth, so I didn't go ahead with it. So as bojan suggests above, perhaps if you find a similar camera on ebay and take both to them for parts?

I'll do that, thanks. Also been looking in cash converters. I discovered to my amazement that this 48 yr camera can be screwed directly onto my Dob. :-)

I think thats what I am going to have to do. I really hope I can get it working as I only just discovered once I remove the lens I can connect it to my Dob.
Which I thought was pretty good considering the camera is 48 yrs old. :-)

Repair - don't discard!

Hi,

Just because it is a film camera don't listen to the knockers who say film is dead and get a digital.

Give Allan Robertson at f16 Camera Repairs a call, if anyone can repair your family heirloom he can, these older cameras often just need a CLA (clean, lube & adjust) and can give many more years service. I regularly use a couple of cameras that are older than me

Regards

Brendan
