Powering Canon 350D from 12v

Hi all

What options are there for powering a Canon 350D in the field with a 12V battery?

I've got an ebay ac adapter, but that needs 240v.

I'm hoping there's a cheap ebay alternative for 12v.

Thanks

There was a discussion about this awhile ago Mike, relating to the 300D. I can't remember the outcome. I'll see if I can find it.

Mike,

I use a DC/DC converter from Dork Smith that plugs into a car ciggy socket. This allows you to select the output voltage, the device comes with a variety of connectors. I can use this with either a bettery or 12v mains PSU. You can get the same thing at Jaycar I am sure, just make sure you get a switchmode/regulated type to avoid wasting battery power and potential for overvoltage.

Sounds like a cheaper option for sure. I haven't yet seen my 350D - so I have no idea what type of plug they take. Is there actually a separate DC-in plug, or do you have to use a dummy battery?

Mike, I have a 20D so I had to buy a dummy battery lead from Canon (grr) I believe the 350D has a standard jack plug type connector - oh yes I forgot to mention if you go this way watch out for polarity !

From the PDF instructions I'm gandering at, it looks like its a standard DC-in plug into the ACK700 DC-Coupler (dummy battery).

I was aware of the hutech option, but at US$129 I was hoping for a cheaper alternative.

The AU$58 timer remote thing is an absolute bargain!

I was hoping for something similar in price reduction

john, won't I need a dummy battery? The dick smith one wouldn't come with that?!

Didn't one of these already come with the AC kit?
