An article has appeared on the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers
(IEEE) Spectrum Magazine web site entitled "Porsche Claims It Can
Double Tesla’s Fast-Charging Rate"
Author John Voelcker writes on fast EV charging technologies and talks
with Joachim Kramer, who leads Porsche’s work in high-voltage electronics
for electrified vehicles in Stuggart, about Porsche’s new Taycan, the
brand’s first all-electric car, which the manufacturer claims can be recharged in
15 minutes for a 375km+ range or in only 5 minutes for 100km range.
The author quotes a McKinsey report that estimates US $50 billion will
be spent on EV charging sites over the coming decade.
Like the Tesla S, the Taycan can put down a massive amount of torque
in a short amount of time, the limitation being wheel spin, and like the
Tesla, enough to pin the driver and occupants down into the back of
the seats through the large G-force.
Porsche put the Taycan around the Nürburgring a few days ago and it did a respectable
7 minutes 42 seconds.
