Photography here I come!!
Hi,
I've been so inspired by all the awesome photos I've seen on IIS (thank you all!), I've taken the plunge and bought 650D & Samyang 35mm F1.4 as a start down my long path to photographic bliss!
I have no delusions about mastering anything in 5 mins... starting with the basics!!
So stay tuned... One day I hope to contribute my attempts at perfection!

The best way Rob is to post pics right from the start then you'll receive feedback on technique, style etc .... speeds up the learning process a lot.

Hi Robert,
Invest another couple of hundred dollars in an EQ2 or EQ3 equatorial mount, buy a cheap long exposure timer off ebay and you will be amazed at the great photos you will get just with your current camera and lens.
Take Matt's advice and post your photos on IIS, you'll be amazed at how quickly you will improve.

Thanks guys!
I actually do have an EQ2 in my closet. Will just need a motor drive and camera adapter for it for photography.
In the short term I'm getting my head into the camera and getting more familiar with all the controls. Thinking I might try something pretty basic/easy in a week or so: the moon. I have the camera adapter & T-Ring for my refractor, so I think I'll have a play with that... I figure the exposures will be nice and quick and I won't need to worry about tracking.
I'll keep you all posted!

Beware the slippery slope of Astrop ....... ah, too late !!
Moon, at ISO 200 you will be down around the 1/500th sec somewhere.

Good stuff Robert, welcome to IIS, A possitive start, and patience is a virtue in this game at any level. A good number of guys here down Sydney way, so getting out in the field with them would be nothing short of beneficial !

I can list alot of things wrong with that setup, BUT, the funny thing is that whole rig cost not much more than $1000 including the DSLR...
I guess the quality can only get better!!
