300D Modified and IR filter

Hi guys,

I've just bought 300D with a stock filter replaced with a clear optical glass from Edmun Glass. It' been shipped today and I hope to get it very soon.

Considering it has a clear glass I guess I need some filter which will block infrared and will still pass Hydrogen-Alpha at the same time. Am I right?

Can anyone recommend such a filter? I already own Astronomik IR Blocking filter , will it suit?

cheers,

Hi h0ughy,

thanks for your reply.

I'm afraid in this case I'll also need to buy some adapter that I can use to put 2" filter on. Currently I have nothing that can accept 2" filters. Do stock rings supplied with a Skywatcher ED80 have some thread suitable for 2"?

And will it be a huge difference if I use 1.25" filters?

cheers,

Michael

Hi Guys,

Sorry t jump in here, but If I was to remove the original filter in my 300D, do I need to replace it with clear glass, it is going to used for Astro work only.

hey peter, if it is purely for astro work, you don't need to replace it with anything. however, if you are planning to use a refractor with it, i recommend getting yourself a UV/IR screw on filter to minimise bloated stars.

Hi Peter,

I guess you don't. There should be no difference in pictures as it's only clear glass. However it may be important in terms of protecting a camera imaging chip from dust.
