LRGB filters

Hi,
As the clouds are still here I'm checking out filters for planetary imaging. Two sets have caught my eye, the Baader LRGB and the Astronomik LGRB type 2c. I suspect they would both be excellent, but am wondering if there are any major differences in performance? I've found an online bench-test type of thing, and noticed that the Astronomik seems to be have more consistent transmission across the colour bands. Is this an important consideration?

Hi Stephen I'm not sure how much of a performance difference you will see between the two you're looking at regarding planetary imaging or with RGB transmission in general. If that's all you plan on using them for then I'd go with which ever one is cheaper of the two. The filters I use for some of my planetary imaging are eBae specials which cost me about $30 off memory. They're not the best but with a little bit of understanding their limitations they seem to get the job done.

However, if you're going to use them for DSO work as well then that's a different story. I'd spend more and get an established brand which both of the brands you're looking at are. So which one? Personally I think you'd be happier with the Baader set. However, if you've got the funds and want the best then skip those and grab a set of Astrodons and never look back. Generally speaking, the more expensive the filters, the better the quality, transmission and parfocality.
