Flats with One-Shot Colour Camera

I'm wondering about something re flats to use with a one-shot colour camera. Is it necessary to remove the Bayer matrix from the master flat before application to the subs? If yes, how is that done? Do I just covert the flat to colour, then apply the flat normally to the non-debayered subs?

Thanks,

Peter

Pretty sure you don't need to do anything, think it just uses the lightness regardless.

A OSC master flat is usually not de-bayered as it has to calibrate a sub before the sub gets de-bayered and stacked.

Cheers

P.S If you do want a de-bayered master flat then stack them as if they were lights and each flat sub will be de-bayered before stacking.

Thanks for the answers. The reason I asked was a post I read today on the Maxim Yahoo discussion group by Terry Platt of SX Cameras:

"Colour flats need to be filtered to remove the colour information (the chequering). This is usually done with a 2x2 ‘Boxcar’ filter – this can be created in the ‘User’ filter mode by setting the four top left corner cells to ‘1’."

I don't use Maxim to process so I don't know what a Boxcar Filter is but it got me thinking about the issue hence this post.

That's interesting Peter about Maxim, with DSS, Astro Art and Nebulosity you don't have to do any pre-conditioning of the flats.

You do have to tell those programs which subs are the flats though, so the chosen program itself may do some pre-conditioning in the background.

The Nebulosity manual mentions that a 2x2 median filter is applied to all flats when they are stacked.

Cheers
Bill
