white balance query

for canon users, if a 400d is used set to day WB,,then you switch to custom & shoot 18% grey..if you switch back to day WB or whatever..does the camera remember the custom you shot on the grey card so when you switch back each time you are right to shoot on a modded camera?

Hi Daniel,

From memory, yes, it does remember the last custom white balance you shot, provided the image is still on the memory card. I'll have a look when I get home.

It does in my 500D, and I'm pretty sure it does that even without the image on the card. At least I had swapped both memory cards and the white balance a few times and have had the old custom white balance applied.

I can confirm that for the 450D, so I think the 400 wouldn´t be an exception.

Correct, custom wb will be stored irrespective of whether the image is on the cf card or not.
