First Saturn and Jupiter efforts

Hi all, it’s been rather a long time between drinks for me in this forum but I’m back now and have been busy in the my backyard in central Hawke’s bay NZ trying my hand at some planetary work for the first time. These are shot through my mak-cassegrain 127mm, canon 1000d, backyard Eos, photoshop and Lightroom.
All commentand criticism is welcomed.

Hi Andy,

That is some nice detail on Jupiter for a 5" scope.

Did you use any staking software?

Cheers,

Justin

hi Justin,
I captured the clips in backyard eos.....sorted them into the best frames with the pipp program and then stacked them in Registax

Well done Andy!
I'm guessing you're hooked now.

Lovely part of the world in Hawkes Bay.
Fond memories, especially of Havelock North.

Good focus and detail in the Jupiter shot.

I think might be able to push things a bit further still:
- Avoid pushing the ISO too high, or things will get too "grainy"
- Use for a the fastest frame rate which gives you a decent histogram (eg. 60-80% max brightness), and capture for up to 3 minutes.
- Try stacking using AutoStakkert (does a better job then RegiStax)
- Use RegiStax for wavelets (sharpening & noise reduction)
- Final tweaks in Photoshop or similar (darken background, etc)

The are some pretty decent tutorials on YouTube etc also.
The following website has some good info:

Cheers,
Jeff
