Solar imaging issue

Have tried using my Solar Max 40 with Meade DSI II Colour and this was the outcome.

Focus is difficult to find but when i think I am there, the first image looks like this and then gets worse. It looks OK on the live view before I start imaging. Any ideas what the ghosting is? It doesn't show on te computer before imaging,.

Am I out of focus?

Meade Starsuite 75 Gain 50 Offset is as close as I can get it. Exposure about .032.

Setting at terrestrial. There is no solar setting in the software.

What am I doing wrong.

Frank

Frank, a couple of things..
The exposure is far too high....work from the lowest you have - I use around 1/150s for my set up ( double stacked SM60+ED80) and 1/20s for the proms.
The edge blur I think is the ghost from the etalon made more obvious due to the over exposure.
Tuning the SM40 is a fine art...concentrate on getting the edge in as tight a focus as you can then use the tuning ring to get the best surface detail visible then tweek the focus again. I had to add a SW electronic focus motor to my ED80 to get good results.
The good news is that you will succeed! just a bit more practise, practise...
