Ngc 300

Well, between the weather, some equipment trouble, buying and selling houses and moving, it's been a lean few months in the astroimaging department. This one was taken over several nights in September and October.
See link here http://www.astrobin.com/320390/B/?nc=user and a higher res here https://www.astrobin.com/full/320390/B/

Quite a nice object but low surface brightness. Besides the main galaxy there are at least another 55 other galaxies in the field.
Details:
Telescope: 12.5" Plane wave
Mount: AP900
Camera: FLI 16803 Proline
Exposure: About 11 hours
Processing: PixInsight

Nice job Geoff,
You've got all the faint parts of the galaxy.
You could even do some more processing on that pic to jazz it up? -
- improve the mottled background & add more saturation to the galaxy.

cheers
Allan

Thanks Allan. Yes, I agree that the background needs fixing. Shouldn't be too difficult.

Boy that is a really nice image of NGC300. Love it. Very compelling.

Very nice image Geoff, I always considered NGC 300 a little boring but several versions have cropped up in the recent year or so that have changed my mind...and this is one of'em

Thanks Mike. One of the interesting things about ngc300 is that it is a boringly normal spiral galaxy. Nothing surprising in the spiral arms, no starbursts, well defined normal core. So typical that it's quite exceptional.

Really nice work Geoff.

Peanut gallery suggestion - might be time to take some Ha and go nuts emphasising the H2 regions perhaps?

Thanks Martin. It was made even more difficult by the same stray light artifact in each of my master lights. Took a lot lot fiddling to subdue it.

Yes Rob. I did take some Ha but not enough to make an appreciable difference. I may try taking some more.
