where to buy CF cards and canon batteries?

My new canon 50D takes CF cards, not many places in Kingaroy (my closest 'Big Shops'),sell them.

The only place I could find one was DSE,it was 2 GB approx $25

After using the 450D with its 4 GB space, the 2 GB will get swallowed up quick on a birding trip taking JPG and RAW.

Is there anywhere on net that sells CF cards at a reasonable price, and do they come bigger than 2 GB?

Also batteries, where can I get some extras for the 50D I have 2 but would like another one or two, they look like the style my old 300D had

Any pointers would be appreciated.thanks Chris

G'day Chris,

My Fuji Finepix S9500 also takes CF cards, but I bought an SD/SDHC Cf Card Adapter on eBay for next to nothing so I can use the SD cards that I already had. You can also pick up reliable Sandisk CF cards on eBay, just ensure you buy from an Australian dealer, such as the following, http://cgi.ebay.com.au/GENUINE-SanDi...item4149494665
I have bought several items from this dealer and have had no troubles at all.

Cheers
Chris

Chris with the 50d you will need a fast card to cope with the cameras 6.3frames /second shooting speed. I use in Brisbane Camera Pro. They state they will price match Australian Prices. I used on my 50d and also on my new 7d Sandisk Ultras IV or better 4 to 16 gig cards. More expensive for the 45-60mb write speeds but you camera will function to it's full. I had an old cheapy card and the camera would not shoot at it's max speed. Faster cards also better for downloading as well.
Camera Pro are online. Also Photo Continental in Brisbane will try to beat Camera Pro --competition.
Both reliable , not sure if Photo continental do online?? Got my 7d cards and lenses from Camera Pro and extra batteries from Photocontinental.
Just be aware of non Australian supplied items and warrenties.

Mark

P.S. Cheap chips online have good pricing on Cards.

Chris, I bought Kingston Elite Pro cards from Shoppingsquare.com.au. 16Gb cards cost me around $55 each transfer rate is 25Mb/s read 20Mb/S write. I have had absolutely no problems with them over the past couple of years.
They are a bit cheaper now at $52.95.

Chris have a read of DP reviews the timing section for the 50D.
Card speed is important with DSLR cameras when it comes to burst speeds write buffer flush and download.

re cards

Thank you all for this information,I was not up to speed with 'write speeds'.

I take it the higher write speed number the better, sounds like its well worth it for when I am shooting Birds in flight at multiple frames per second.with the 50D

Thanks Chris

I've always bought the after-market, el-cheapo batteries and cards. Would the genuine products perform better?

Mark, thanks for the link to dp review. Excellent resouce. I spent literally hours reading through the site.

I have in my 7D 2 genuine Canon batteries and I also have 2 aftermarket el cheapos but according to Photo Continental a better el cheapo.
The Canon batteries dispite having slightly lower amp/hr rating do last longer , but not by much.
The real test is what is the recharge useage life of them, but when you can buy 3 cheapies to one genuine it is really up to your budget and usage.
Both Sandisk and Lexar are very good Cards and have high speed cards rated for professional and semi pro cameras but do rate them differently.
I use Sandisks Extream Pros 90MB/s in the D7 and used the straight Extreames 45MB/s in the 50D.

I would get 2 smaller cards rather than 1 big one in case you loose one or have a SNAFU.
