Hi all, I really wanted to image Rosette Nebula last night, but alas, my trees along my north boundary put an end to those aspirations.
A quick look at Star Walk on my iPhone had me thinking about NGC2359.
Now, this is a bit small for my setup and although I can drop the field reducer / flattener from my system, it is still very small in my frame. I also wondered what may result from my un-modified 1000D could make compared to those brilliant CCD mono systems with the fancy filters etc.
I had hoped to capture using at least 4 minute subs, but with the highway upgrade came those horrid orange lights and sans LP filter I found I can only get around 200 seconds before the sky glow pushes the histogram too far.
Here is my effort 26x200 seconds 1600 ISO with 9 darks no flats or bias frames.
Cropped a bit but didn't want to go further for fear of losing resolution and sharpness. Processed with Nebulosity 3, Star Tools and tweaked with Photoshop CC.
Thanks Bo. Although it wasn't the target I had originally set out to image, its added difficulty due to its small size and being very faint, made a challenge I enjoyed. I am actually quite happy to get something that is recognisable from the night.
Pity we do not have more clear Saturday nights on a regular basis around here.

Thanks Raymo, Luis and Willik. It was actually a fun object to find and shoot. I might try to get more on it with my modded 300d. The only issue with that camera is it doesn't work with backyard eos. Harder to focus and frame than the 1000d. It may help balance the colour by letting some of the Ha spectrum through. All depends on the weather co-operating.
Thanks Jo, yeah I guess I am learning bit by bit. Just bought a subscription to Photoshop CC. A lot to learn there! Drove by your way on the 5th of Jan from Toowoomba (visiting relo's) the back way to Moree, Coonabarabran., Mudgee and then home to the Blue Mountains. Nice trip.
Cheers,
Bruce.
