Jewel Box NGC4755

This one was sitting in the camera since January 2nd because I didn't think I had enough time on it. It's only 7 x 30 seconds between cloud gaps, but this 8" F4 keeps surprising me. It's okay for a quickie I think. The bright star at top left is Southern cross star Mimosa.

Details: Bintel 8" F4 Newtonian, 7 x 30 seconds mostly at ISO3200, 1 frame at ISO1600, Baader MPCC MKIII, Baader UV-IR cut filter, Pentax K-5, HEQ5 pro unguided. Image is not cropped, flats were used but no darks were taken.

The little jpeg here is a bit overly compressed so here's a bigger one. http://astrob.in/146450/0/

Yup, that's a cracker. I should have a go at it. I thought I wouldn't have the focal length to get a nice image but this is a very nice field.

Thanks guys. It's nice to be able to take reasonably good quick pics between clouds, thanks to digital. This is another of those situations where film would not have been possible. It's been 10 years since I took my last roll of film.

Thanks Trevor. I'll have to see what other quick shots I can get in that region.

It is Russell. The stars are not as sharp as the refractor, but you don't notice unless looking at the photo zoomed up.
