Space/Astronomy Movies

I usually don't watch much TV or go to the movies... But also due to the cold weather () I was thinking it might be a good idea to watch a good/exciting space movie. Is there anything you would recommend that can be bought online?
(PS: Not ET )
Thanks!

They are not exciting but I love hubble type fly byes of gallaxies neb etc...it seems slow but you are travelling past gallaxies in half a minute ..preety fast for say 150000 light years.. And there is spacey music no narration and they inject a 3d effect a bit phony but if you just sit there and take it in it is real cool. I must say that if one were to take the excellent images presented in our own deep sky photo section one could achieve similar such is the quality our members regularly present here. Keep an eye open when in K Mart I got a five in one all space stuff and for the money a great night..I dont think I got thru them all but only 15 bucks and the movies were good..
One a star ship goes to the sun cant remeber name but it was trippy. Best wishes alex

The Cosmos series by Carl Sagan. It's not a movie, it's a series. An oldie but a goodie.

Moon, Contact, 2001, The Dish, Apollo 13, Cosmos (both the original and the current series).

Slightly off topic but I've just discovered one of my favourite space docos called "Nukes in Space: The Rainbow Bombs" is on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_AJPpHnBJiY
It has some amazing footage from some very early rocket launches. Might be worth bookmarking for a cloudy night if you're into that sort of thing

I thoroughly enjoyed October Sky when it was released, great true story. I'm sure it has the typical Hollywood embellishments to spice it up for the big screen, but probably mostly factual anyway.

A bit late but for a movie have a look at Dark Star, and of course there's always any Red Dwarf series/episodes

The opening sequence was worth the price of the ticket (to see it at the cinema) alone.

Gravity, Oblivion, After Earth, Star Trek - Into Darkness, Elysium were all good and recently released. Gatacca is an all time favourite.
