Yeah....
I found the $3 webcam from Target, although the lens was removable was NBG for astronomy......no effective control!

Wouldn't AmCap ( or similar) give some degree of control ? Possibly ok for planetary. At $3 it just has to be an experimental !!
It looks like it would just about slide into a focusser tube without any modification at all.
I'll take 10 ...

Hi Doug

I bought one of those some months back. I found it very frustrating to work with since the one I had, had an internal blue LED that would light up as soon as the webcam was connected to the pc. I had to unsolder that.
The lens comes off very easily but you have to locate the screws on the case. mine was under a sticker.
The webcam has autofocus and auto contrast, which is really not helpful since everything either goes super white (when i pointed it to the moon) or it is too dark.

Mine is sitting in a drawer somewhere.
I was using SharpCap.
Would be interested on how you go with yours. All the best mate

This Swann has been on the market for a few years and is a 5MP camera. It was bought because of it's hi Res and it's shape which is easy to manipulate for the 1.25 ep holder. It can be mounted in an old 35mm film canister which fits comfortably in the ep holder.
I haven't used it to image with (yet) but it does give a pretty good picture using basic video capture software.
