ZUBEN ELGENUBI , Sigma Orionis, Iota Cancri, h3945
Want some easy beautiful doubles; just added one more :
ALPHA LIBRA- AKA - ZUBEN ELGENUBI : Its pale yellow / light grayish components of magnitudes 2.8/5.2.
Easily found as its almost of total magnitude 2.8.
Halfway between Spica and Antares and bright!
The two members of Alpha Librae are separated in the sky by over 3 minutes of arc!!
IOTA CANCRI:
Orange / Blue-white ; easily found 7 degrees north of M44, the splendid beehive cluster in Cancer, is Iota Cancri; An easy kill for the night with Magnitudes 4.1 / 6.57. Separation 30 ” approximately and an orange / blue-white pair.
H3945 :
Magnitudes 5/5.8 over 25 seconds of arc separation
In Canis Major-An incredible binary of golden yellow/intense royal blue.
As for finding h3945, trace an imaginary line from Adhara past Wezen in CMa and extend it about 3 degrees beyond .Watch these as I did as a diversion from Jupiter and Saturn if your up late or for
the coming weeks.
SIGMA ORIONIS: Whose five stars together shine in ORION at a bright 3.7 youll find it just south of Alnitak near Orions belt and the Horsehead Nebula.
Sigma Orionis has 5 components !!! A to E. A and B are the brightest but are spectroscopic. In a 90mm scope say at 100x, you’ll resolve the C, D, and E components . Star C is the faintest, and at magnitude 10.0, it might require a 4 inch plus scope.
Some people say C, D, E LOOK RED WHITE AND BLUE!!!!
Its one of the greatest multiples anyhow.
