Ngc2997

Long time between images this time of year.

NGC 2997 is a face-on unbarred spiral galaxy about 25 million light-years away in the constellation Antlia.

Taken over two nights, Luminance the first and RGB the second. GSO 10" F4 Newtonian, ZWO ASI 183mm Pro cooled to -10C, 719 x 30 seconds unguided. I'll have to fix the light spray at 2 Oclock one year.

Nice details in the galaxy core and spiral arms.

Thanks Marc. It's an improvement over my last attempt a couple of years ago with the DSLR.

Nice one Kevin always found the arm structure intriguing on this one, somewhat complex almost broken up arms on the lower side there and one big main one on top...interesting

Thanks Mike. Yes it's not that symmetrical. I wonder if something is influencing it? Doesn't seem to be too many other galaxies nearby.

One of my favourite galaxies, Kevin. You’ve done a nice job with the colour, detail and composition.

Thanks Geoff. I'm still practicing combining Luminance to RGB but I think I'm starting to get the hang of it.

Another very good image Kevin. The stars though seem a little large overall compared to the Galaxy. I wonder if some star reduction could help here.

Greg.

Premier cru.

Excellent acquisition and processing. The central dust lanes are especially fine.

One of our favourites too.

Thanks Greg. Already used level 3 star shrink, which is fairly gentle. They may be a bit fatter from being unguided with some drift.
