NGC 2244 and Rosette detail

This is the open cluster NGC 2244 at the center of the Rosette Nebula and a detail view of the southern part of the nebula. The super hot O-type stars of NGC 2244 generate intense radiation and stellar wind to shape the Rosette Nebula. Their influence is apparent in this part of the nebula with bow shocks and long columns of interstellar gas and dust.

After capturing a view of the entire Rosette Nebula with an Esprit 100ED, this part of the nebula caught my attention. The extra reach of the 10" Newtonian from Sidereal gives a good close up of the area.

You're right, it is a really interesting part of the overall nebula and you've captured and processed it well. It has a bit of a 3D feel to the image.

A really well handled narrow field image that brings a fresh and interesting perspective, of a well known object, to the table.

I'd also comment narrow field at this scale is not easy to do well....which I suspect many struggle with, hence choose not to even go there.

...but the reward is: you get an image that reveals interesting details that are often lost in all too common vanilla renditions.

I captured a bit over 1 hour per filter on the first night night and found lots of noise after I registered and stacked them. I captured more the next night and still had noise. I kept going for a couple of nights until I realised the problem was with the calibration frames and not the lights! The good thing was I ended up with the luxury of having enough subs to be ruthless in discarding those that weren't perfect. The end result was good SNR and really sharp detail!

I've taken images before that seem to become bold and vibrant with very little processing. This one seemed to want to be more subdued and subtle - although it would be interesting to see how others might approach the processing..

Echoing what’s already been said above, well done!
Maybe worthwhile cleaning up the colours a bit though, they look a tad muted and green/cyan to my eye.
Mind you that’s my personal taste only!

The version on Astrobin is a little brighter with a bit more contrast but otherwise has the same colours. The cyan/green was intentional. I find removing the green gives a very binary orange/blue image. Almost all narrowband SHO images on Astrobin have that appearance but I prefer cyan and a little residual green because I think it gives better transitions between hydrogen/oxygen/sulphur. Mind you that’s my personal taste only!

As I said in an earlier comment, it would be interesting to see how others approach the processing. If anyone is interested, the data are here. If you download and process, please post the result!
