K3CCD Tools

I've been trying to get in contact with Peter for a couple of weeks now. I need to put K3 V3 on my new computer and can't until I get a new code.
I'm going away for a week of dark sky imaging, and now it seems I won't be able to do any imaging now if I don't have K3 to help with my drift align.
It's damn irritating.
I've filled in the online form twice requesting a new registration code, and on the website it says it would be sent within 48hrs. I've sent emails too.
But nothing, zip and nada. grrrrrr
Are they still in business??

well i wondered the same thing. i have k3 on the obs computer and after a win7 update the programme then decided it was out of time and locked me out - that was 6 months ago and i am still waiting for help and a new serial. I gave up after 4 emails over 4 weeks, thankfully i still have a copy working on my laptop. Personally i think his interest has well and truely wained

I've seen some guys asking same question in the K3CCDTools Yahoo Group and it's been like a bit of a ghost town in there. Guy the other day posted if Peter is ok, and no responses at all yet.

Re: drift aligning. Why not use PHD if you have that? Just point scope straight up, calibrate PHD and get it guiding, turn off dec guiding, watch the error graph slope of dec axis, adjust az until the slope of the graph goes flat. Then point just above horizon east or west, calibrate and get guiding, turn off dec guiding, watch the error graph slope in dec, and adjust alt until graph is flat. Repeat maybe one or 2 times and off you go.

As the Hoff and Troy suggest J, the alternatives now for K3 are better.
I used to love K3 but now use PHD for the refinement if needed (permanent
setup) and Sharpcap or Craterlet(which btw you suggested to me) for capture.

Sharpcap does Lx well, so does WxAstrocapture.
Sharpcap also has a better live histogram and on-the-fly mini stacking
so you can find DSOs etc better while framing.

WcCtrl handles the presets and favourite driver settings well, working
alongside.

I was so looking forward to having a no dramas time away. No plug and play, hassle free imaging for Nettie it seems.

Thanks for the tips.

Tried that Dave. Won't work on my machine.
Need to decide if I'll take the Dob with me and just do planetary, or take the imaging rig and put up with the frustration. I need a bigger car. Whaaaa.
LOL

I even bought a new (2nd hand) xp machine to reload K3 on.
This whole exercise is costing me money.

If it is mostly to solve your drift alignment problems, then I'd download the 30 day trial of http://wcs.ruthner.at/index-en.php
It works brilliantly.

Cheers everyone.
I'd try the old code, but it's on my dead puter. (RIP little fella)
I'll work things out, if I'm anything, I'm stubborn and resilient. LOL
