ZWO ASI120MM-S in PHD2

Anyone got seettings for getting the forementioned camera up and running in PHD2? It connects, but then I get no image on screen, even with the fish-eye on. Switch to WDM driver, then select ASI, and fine, but the stand alone ZWO driver entry just says "Failed to open ZWO camera"

In PHD1, from selection (as a WDM device) to image on screen without an issue, but PHD2 doesn't seem to want to play ball (and I don't want to shift over to MetaGuide JUST yet )

Ideas?

You need to download the ASI Camera ASCOM driver, you connect to the ASI120MM-S via that ASCOM driver.
I've got the same camera and used PHD2 and had no issues.

Running ASCOM directly, it sees the ASI perfectly well and offers many settings. PHD2 simply fails to connect the native driver irrespective of what I change etc.

Scratch head...

Metaguide saw it on the opening selector without issue. Really confused why PHD2 is not seeing it (fresh, new install of the latest version)

Have you downloaded the ASI120MM-S specific driver as well? There is both a ASI Camera driver which is generic for ASI Cameras but there is also specific camera drivers for the main one.

Just put the mini disc in wife's laptop and copied the disc to USB...let's see if it is any different to their unified driver set online.

Oh great, now after installing the apparently specific driver, I cannot even connect WDM. WTFFFFFF?

Yup, even Metaguide no longer sees it...shoulda left well enough alone. Now what to do...

The system sees it, says it works fine, but now the cam won't show up in WDM lists (all programs just open my laptop webcam). How do I get it to see the damned camera again as it did before?

I think that you will need to try again with the up-to-date drivers from their website. Assuming that you have ASCOM 6.2 already loaded, you need to unplug the camera lead and run the Native Driver installer V2.0.1.3 and then the ASCOM driver (hidden behind the plus button) - currently 1.0.2.25

when you plug the camera in after loading the software, it should install everything (might take a bit) and thereafter, work. Select it as an ASCOM camera in phd2

Tried that Ray - it's just not seeing it at all in PHD2, PHD, and Metaguide. Running ASCOM diagnostics, it's fine, but it simply won't show in my WDM list in the programs.

Just working from memory here but you need to install.
http://astronomy-imaging-camera.com/...20V2.0.1.3.exe

This one show allow you to select the camera drivers you're installing and it downloads them for you. Just select all and let it do its thing.

This install this one which should be the ASI Camera ASCOM driver.

http://astronomy-imaging-camera.com/...0V1.0.2.25.exe

Not sure how compatible these drivers are with previous versions of ASCOM so I'd double check you have ASCOM 6.2 currently installed.

My issue now is SOMEWHERE the newer drivers are interferring DESPITE uninstalling them. Every time I launch the new driver, it says it is still installed, so reinstall...I just can't find what dll's or whatever I need to remove manually.

The old driver installs, and shows, but the preview is blank.

I shoulda left alone and run it WDM...email to ZWO outgoing...

OK, got it back, WDM - that took every ounce of google-fu and registry knowledge I could summon. I AM NOT UPDATING IT NOW lol.

I reran the new driver through Revo uninstaller, and wiped EVERY registry entry for it. Then reinstalled the driver from the disc, and bingo.

NOT CHANGING A THING!

EDIT: Now tried it in ASCOM and native mode, and it works. PHEW!!!! The native mode is so much more sensitive than WDM it seems.

Been testing it is WDM and Native - native is FAR superior.

It's going to give the Lodestar a VERY serious shake up - I think it is actually quite a bit better and seems noticeably more sensitive.

It's great you got it to work Lewis I have been following ZWO's journey and reading about their new products with a great interest.

I'm intrigued that you find ASI 120MM more sensitive than Lodestar. Seems counterintuitive since both have similar QE and pixels in Lodestar have nearly 5 times larger surface area, suggesting it should be heaps more sensitive than ASI 120MM. Maybe binning makes that difference? I'm curious because ASI is much cheaper than Lodestar and if it is as good or better then it would be awesome news.

Haven't tried them out side by side under the stars as yet Suavi, but in a fully darkened room, using the same fisheye lens, the ZWO seemed to show a distinctly better image than the Lodestar (borrowed Lodestar until this ZWO arrived).

This is the older Lodestar, so not sure how it compares to the X2.
