SEO IDAS Cooled 40d

I believe SEO IDAS will soon announce their new line of Canon 40D Cooled DSLR. SEO IDAS = Hutech (Distributor). At $3298 AUS it won't be cheap but a noiseless 40D will be really tasty. Same principle as CentralDS .

i wonder how they got around the patent yun has, its very similar. I note how its only the 40D that got modded not the 450D. dear price, but thats the price of progress.......

Yes. the design is practically the same as yun's. The only area where a fan can be placed will be either on the left hand side or on the bottom of the camera.
It will be good to see which one cools down faster between the two.

I have recently purchased the cental ds cooled & modded 40d, I must admit it looks alot neater than the SEO model.

Patents are difficult to keep, as you make one modification and it essentially becomes a new product. The principle is the same.

Same way as you cannot patent a hamburger, the priciple is the same but all look and taste different.

Technically they would be better off cooling the chip electronically (using a 2 or 3 stage cooling system).

For the price you can get a Qhy8, lot less weight, 16bit etc etc. Sure its only 6mp but I am sure there will be higher resolution ones coming out. The point is i think it would be overall better for them to just buy the sensor and make there own body around it with what ever cooling solution you want to use. Here you are paying the price of the Camera Body and the modification. When you could save on the cost of the body by just using the same chip and create your own body. Thats what Qhy has done.
Just my 2cents.

Fahim

I agree, I can't understand why you would go to the expense when the QHY cameras are around. The new one thats coming looks to have the sensor sealed in a frost free chamber and its an 11megapixel mono camera. Plus they have the 16meg super mono camera, there's just too much choice.

Im with Fahim on this, a 40D is a killer for the price, especially with a self mod, but for $3298 cooled is all starting to look a bit marginal.

You can get a brand new SBIG ST2000XCM for US$2895 or mono for US$3495 (regulated cooling, internal guide chip etc), or a S/H ST10XME for near that, serious hi QE imaging. OK, you then need a fllter wheel/filters for the monos, and the res isnt as hi as the 40D, ill give it that, but the QHY8 gives you the same as a proper astro cam.

Dont get me wrong, the 40D itself is a killer, but this product is pushing its value.
