First Light with new (to me) QHY183C

Hi all,

Haven't posted in a while. But had a chance to test out my new to me QHY183C and AStromechanics EOS adapter for my canon 50mm lens. I didn't stress about framing so it is far from perfect, I was also testing the lens at f2.8 and I'm suprised how much coma there is (I heavily cropped), I had thought that since it is smaller than APSC I'd get away with it. So next time I'll stop it down to f4 and that should reduce both the bloat and the coma. I'm happy with how much easier the stacked image is to work with compared with my DSLR, the reduced noise of a cooled camera is awesome.

1 hour of 3 minute subs at -15C.

Looks good Paul. I like the look of those Astromechanics adapters - how have you found it to use so far ?

Took me a few hours to get it operational. But I don't think that was the adapter as I couldn't focus manually either. I did two things just before it all started working so not sure if one or the other, or maybe even both did it. I attached the lens to my dslr and focussed on the moon and then removed the lens and put it on the adapter and then I played with the usb to make sure it was properly connected. Bingo it all worked including flawless autofocus V curves in SGP. I'm hoping tonight is clear again so I can have another go with it. I might even stay at f2.8 for now, without pixel peeping I can't actually see the coma.

I just combined a previous 4 panel mosaic I took with my DSLR and WO Star 71 with the QHY image. If I had completed the full 6 panels planned and had framed the LMC better with the QHY it would have spanned the entire galaxy and looked awesome.
