With a wintery blast forecast later this week with rain and hail predicted, I grabbed a clear night on Tuesday to shoot Jupiter again. Seeing wasn't good and this was the best I could manage on the night. I left the scope in the same position and changed cameras to do deep sky instead, looking for and finally locating M83. It was getting late so I took 30 x 30 second subs 1600 iso at the prime focus of my 8 inch Newt. Polar alignment was rough because it wasn't necessary for the planetary work I had been doing, hence the eggy stars.
10 of the 30 subs I threw out due to tracking errors from the RA motor on the EQ5, so this is just 10mins of integration time from light polluted Melbourne. I'm pleased it came up as well as it did ( apart from the noise ) because the whole night was an act of desperation before the next few cloudy nights spoil the fun.
