Low power limits?

Did some viewing last night under reasonably dark skies. Felt like playing around a bit and put the 55mm Plössl in the 8" f/6 dob, to produce 22x at 9.2mm exit pupil and 2.3° of TFOV. Not only did the space time continuum remain intact, but the view of the Crux/Centaurus/Carina region passing overhead was actually pretty neat. The secondary's shadow was nowhere to be seen (this is very different during the day, when one's pupils aren't dilated), and the sky background, though not perfectly dark, was decidedly non-blinding. In fact, it looked about the same as naked eye if not a little darker. Complaints? The EP needs an extension tube to sit properly, and that's just about it.

Glad to hear it and good on you! The numbers on paper can tell you one thing but in reality the concerns about large exit pupils are overstated. You're using your 'scope as a low power finder/sweeper and it really doesn't matter if you're effectively not seeing the full area of your primary because your exit pupil is larger than your entrance pupil. Enjoy the views!

I use a 41mm Panoptic on a 10.1" f6.4 and 6" f5.5 Newtonian, (sometimes with a Paracorr but usually not) and my sky background is reasonably dark and I really don't care if I 'me not getting the full mirror as it is the wide field I care for more.
