NGC 1291 from the vault

This was my last data capture from late Sept 2018, before my recent hiatus to upgrade my NJP mount to the AP1600GTO and the ensuing shipment delays . This data has been sitting patiently waiting for more data but meah..I needed to post something just to feel like I was still active ...Currently only 70 min of Lum data and taken under a fair bit of Moon and pretty average seeing (I recall I was a little desperate for some data at the time ) but some nice subtle and fine details are still present, I will hopefully grab more Lum and some colour this year

This very cool looking gossamer ring like galaxy is in Eridanus

Nicely processed image Mike. You didn’t push the ring too hard—looks quite natural.
BTW “From the Vault” should go back at least 10 years. May be good for a few laughs.

He he well, 5 months it is a bloody long time for a Mayfly!

Imaging a faint-ish ring galaxy under a 3/4 Moon is far from ideal but I think it should look pretty nice once completed...

It's still showing some nice detail Mike, nothing to scoff at there

Another new galaxy to add to the list. I think those faint rings will sing with heaps of moonless data Mike.

John.

It's surprisingly rarely imaged but long exposure shows a beautiful galaxy.

Better than a hiatus hernia Just going out to get a local machinist to do the necessary modifications to my pier and pier adaptor and weight plate counterweights, today

That's a seriously difficult galaxy with its faint outer halo and subtle internal detail, captured and shown very well indeed.

An interesting seriously difficult galaxy too.

I can imagine your frustration regarding the wait. I am currently awaiting the delivery of a new camera and the return of my old QSI from service. That has halted proceedings on the AG12 commissioning.

The galaxy is just showing fine detail in the central bar and there appears to be two outer rings. I'll have to put that on my target list too. I look forward to seeing the colour version.

Yeah, I think this will have an interesting galaxy smattering background when completed
