Nikon D850 - No info, BUT GREAT Video

Hi Folks,

Info (or not) on the Nikon D850, BUT WHAT A VIDEO. Set to Full Screen & Audio LOUD. They say they are / have listened to the voice of the customer. Let's see when it eventually makes it out.

Best

I think I'll be getting one to complement my Canon gear. Best of both worlds is a good proposition.

An earlier rumour, also related to Nikon employing an RGBW sensor for exceptionally low noise, not necessarily on this camera, following certain patents. That could mean some sort of L-RGB imaging in-camera.

Amazing video !
Probably taken in Namibia (as seen from the trees and the starry sky).

This is in high contrast to the Canon 6Mk2 which is barely an upgrade from the original eos 6.

But no mirrorless and still an SLR ?

Canon SHOULD come with a competitive one, as the 5Mk4 is way too expensive.

I think there are issues with this type of sensor that would take time to overcome. All those auto white balance etc settings in any manufacturers settings would need to be redone, the jpeg engine reworked, etc etc.

I can't see Nikon doing that. Sony has one as far as I know but I don't expect them to implement one either for some time.

Its a possible road as is a Foveon style sensor where the different colours are from a single pixel but read at different depths of the silicone. No doubt again issues. Fuji was working on an organic sensor years ago. It hasn't hit the market yet. It has very wide dynamic range.

Sony has a curved sensor and Nikon applied for a patent for a curved sensor and lens in a small fixed camera. That is quite possible in the next few years.

Greg.
