Newbie

Hi all

My father was the astronomer in our family. He lived in the Snowy Mountains where the sky seems so very large and clear. I never appreciated it until I moved to Sydney 20 years ago and the difference between what you can see here and back home was so obvious. Sadly my father has passed away and I am here now to sell his equipment. Having said that, it has been very interesting looking through the forums here. Maybe this is a turning point for my interest.

Sandi

Welcome to Iceinspace Sandi.
Please dont be in a hurry to sell off your Dads equipment unless it is to finance even better gear☺.
Often when young we miss the opportunity to look and see what is out there and that is extremely unfortunate...however if you find you have no interest and only want to sell off your fathers gear then I am sure folk here will help and advise you the prices you can expect and of course we have the classified section where you can advertise to the folk most likely to be interested.
Also if you cant use the gear folk here can help you set things up.
Best wishes
Alex

Hi Sandi,

Depends what you have there. A few thoughts:

Some have started small and over decades swapped gear to eventually acquire the dream scope of a lifetime (as I have).

Many have strived to re-acquire “classic” scopes they remember fondly from younger days, particularly 60-100mm refractors from the 80’s if they’re in nice condition. Some are little more than ornaments for a man-cave, but some really do work well and can be a pleasure to use. They also make a nice hand-me-down for young ones with an interest.

OTOH there certainly are things that should be sold off, parted out or ultimately disposed of.

I was going to sell everything as a job lot but maybe I should separate it. What do you think?

Until you list what you have... no idea... you figure. Last time a deceased estate appeared here it was quite a pile ... upwards of 6 refractors in various states and several hundred accessories, eyepieces, adapters and so-on.

List all the bits and after say 6 weeks those with no decent offer go in the bin, I suggest. The

I think I will sell it as one group as I feel it was purchased to be together. Bintel have suggested this too. This is my list:

- Meade #614 dew shield for 14” SCT
- Bintel 12V regulated power supply (2A)
- Bintel Right angle Power adaptor
- Bintel superview 15mm (1.25”)
- Bintel FMC 40mm (2”)

Documentation stored with the telescope also lists the following as included:

- Smart Mountain technology
- Ultra high transmission coatings
- 8 x 50 finderscope and bracket
- 26mm Plossl eyepiece
- Zero image shift microfocuser
- 2” mirror diagonal with UHTC
- Autostart suite/LPI imaging system
- Heavy duty field tripod

I also have photos of everything which I'll pop up with the classified when I can post it.

Am a bit nervous that everyone keeps talking about scammers. Not sure what to expect now. Bintel recommended this website so here I am but completely out of my comfort zone. Guess we'll see how it pans out.

Thanks for your advice though.

Ok correct all those belong with a C14 SCT, don’t separate.

Sorry, just realised I didn't include the actual telescope. It is a Meade LX200GPS 14” f/10 SCT . Sorry it's not what you are looking for Chapstick.
