Space Engine - Fly the complete Universe

Hey All,

Anyone seen the program currently underdevelopment called Space Engine?

If you ever saw Celestia, well Space Engine is Celestia on steroids.

You have the complete Universe, to explore, including every known galaxy, and any known objects within those galaxies. Spaceflight mode with inertia, and you can pretty much go anywhere you want. Nebula are actual 3D clouds rather than simple images as in Celestia.

The whole thing is done with procedural programming, and the To Do list is impressive. See that on the forum.

It includes Planets (with topography and ability to travel underwater eventually, as well as procedural life). I think it's the most amazing thing I've ever seen. Check out Alpha Centauri (Toliman B) or Denebola star, some nice planets there. There are also plenty to find in other galaxies as well.

It's free to download, current vers is 0.93 and is still in development. I don't have anything to do with it, except as a user.

If you are into Astronomy, then you really have to see this ppl. It's really amazing what it can do. Be warned, it needs a good computer to really get the best of it. 3ghz n 2 Gb Ram n 1 Gb Vram is definitely recommended system. If you don't have that, you can fiddle with "main.cfg" and adjust the level of detail you see. Sounds like I'm flogging it lol.. but I'm just a user, it's just a great proggie. Don't forget to edit main.cfg and enter your screen resolution and VRam (Video Ram) and Computer Ram. It improves performance greatly. For the PC.

Yes, as Bojan said, it is Russian... n there's no
security issues with it, I made sure of that by
scanning it with everything.

Well, it doesn't work on my machine, it crashed even before it started.
Probably because of in-adequate resources (video card.. mine is older Nvidia GeForce FX 5200).. see below:

=================================== =================================== =========
System requirements
=================================== =================================== =========

Minimum:
CPU 2.0 GHz
RAM 2 Gb
Video GeForce 8800, ATI 3850
Video RAM 512 Mb

Recommended:
CPU 3.0 GHz
RAM 2 Gb
Video GeForce 9800 GTX, ATI 4870
Video RAM 1024 Mb

=====================

BTW, this is not installation. All dll's are in the folder, the Windows system doesn't appear to be changed in any way.

Yeh, as I said, it requires a good system. That video card
probably won't cut it. 2ghz is really the absolute minimum.

Awesome find. Downloading now.....

Can't wait to see what it looks like on my system. I've got all the specs covered easily since I'm a bit of a gamer. Should look awesome on my triple screen setup.

In the meantime I was checking out some of the videos on YouTube. WOW is all I can say.

I know this is an old thread, but the latest version of SpaceEngine is incredible.

Well worth a look if you have a decent graphics card.

I've got a sort of decent NVidia card (GTX560M), but my drivers are too new. They say you need 337.* or earlier. I've got 344.11

wow - this is amazing, get onboard everybody.

I've a new gtx 970 sc graphics card, with newest drivers and it is a little glitchy when I approach a planetary system. apart from that it has only crashed a couple of times, generally when travelling many many times the speed of light through the centre of the milky way

I have a GeForce GTS 450 and an I7 950 @ 3.07GHz with 24GB of RAM.
NVIDIA driver is 344.48 running Win7 Ultimate 64bit.
Graphic adapter keeps up but sometime during panning the 8 cores max up at 100% and it's a little sluggish. Also the interface takes a couple of minutes to load. It idles on 8-9GB of RAM once loaded.
