Trump is not the problem as such the problem is the huge sorry HUGE number of folk who are over the top.
He appeals to some strange people but the fact is there are millions who are really bad and really wrong.
You can take away Trump but the mutters are still there...that is the concern I have.

Hey Barry,
I really really like SN1987a the supernova.
Please clarify what you mean... 'this' may be too much or too something for you
and too little or too something else for others.
But to conclude a 'this' causes a 'that' needs a lot of substantiating.
If you know how to prevent or stop a wildfire please tell us quick.
Please clarify to readers, not just me that is only one dot in billions.

I think that many of us (if not a majority) are capable of evil behavior given certain conditions and a leader can provide those conditions, therefore Trump is potentially very important. Some of us are evil, some are good, and there's a large number of 'swing personalities' in the middle.
I'd point to the Stanford Prison Experiment as an interesting example.

Howdy crew, I think someone said " evil prevails when good people stand around and do nothing" Cheers Richard.

Hi Alex,
Of the many posts by many people I remember your saying 'hope something good will come of this'
(I think you meant this situation not this person)
and your and others having been of or known the ego-based character traits.
Such experiences and voices may provide an effective medication.
One 'good thing' (on the back of some terrible suffering) may be
having the 'many sorry MANY' mouldy apples shown up,
and, very importantly,
for the many many many in majority previously-nothingtodowithme or not-registering
to now see, hear, know, realise, and do something effective.
Targeted groups cannot alone fight off the aggressors (or ignorance),
(they were targeted or scapegoated! for reasons).
It has to be the ones in between who were previously unaffected.

Well that explains things...I have been doing nothing for a long time now.
I think the interesting question is ... How will it all end.
The storm is not settling.
And what are the Democrats doing to offer a new president in four years.

I think Kermitt or Miss Piggy might be available. Or maybe one of the old guys on the balcony.

A lot of Trumps support comes from a middle finger backlash to all too quick to condemn political correctness.
I don't want to stop the wildfire I want to blow the whole system up and start again. We may not survive but we weren't going to anyway. Next election vote crazy you know it makes sense!

Are we to infer from this that "Trump is literally Hitler"?

Just a light dig that maybe if the "good" people had bothered to vote maybe things would be different. Nothing to do with Hitler. Cheers Richard

Build the wall so every one pays to get in...tell some people they can't get in so everyone else is happy to get in ... blame all the problems on all the people you are not letting in ....

Just an aside thinking about guns last night I fantasized about a suitable hand gun to have when the zombies walk the streets..
50 cal. and not a hand gun round one of the long ones they use in a rifle.
So I drew some drawings thinking a 12 gauge auto hand gun would be good, solid rounds or buck shot...
Anyways I look on the net and would you believe there are hand guns out there that take the rifle type round...
And I thought my idea was crazy..it was crazy wasn't it?
There are some funny things going on and ... well.

I don't think a new start will work. The problem is in people. We humans really are incapable of fairly governing ourselves.

When the poo hits the US fan, and the militias get moving, the preppers start digging in, and martial law comes into place; just imagine all those lovely telescopes which will be abandoned in the wilderness............

Godwin's Law states that "If an online discussion (regardless of topic or scope) goes on long enough, sooner or later someone will compare someone or something to Hitler". (There is a corollary that "Once such a comparison is made, the thread is finished and whoever mentioned Hitler has automatically lost whatever debate was in progress".)

Nevertheless, attacks by the Head of State against the free media, arbitrarily blocking the movement of people because of their ethnicity / country of origin, detaining people at airports for no good reason (Mem Fox, for example - seriously?! ) and so on ARE genuinely disturbing attacks on our basic freedoms, and MUST be opposed by all decent people, regardless of political inclination.

I recall recently seeing a British comedian (can't recall who, or what show - probably "QI" or "Would I Lie To You") contemplate how difficult it must be for people to engage in fruitful discussion on the History of Nazi Germany on a forum which is actually dedicated to the topic:
A: "Public book-burnings are the point at which we can say that a democracy's decline into an autocracy / dictatorship is irrevocable" - Discuss.
B: "Well, when Hitler and his supporters ..."
A: "Ha! You mentioned Hitler - you lose!"
B: "Doh!"

Most threads in the past would have been closed a lot earlier. Is Donald Trump really that interesting.
What effect will it have on the science community. So far he is bogged up on twitter, but it is no secret that he would shut down loads of science that HE doesn't like.
At the end of it all, happy it is not Australia. And if it ends up being a regret like "Julia Gillard or Kevin Rudd changeover (not so much the elected people just the fiasco) then then US made a mistake and make sure he doesn't get elected next time.
Either that he get impeached. Bill Clinton did less to get impeached.
