Jupiter, Saturn & Mars 15/10/2020

Here's another batch from the same night. Saturn derotated in WinJupos. Bit soft but nice colors.

I have a loop of Jupiter here.

Saturn here. Not much going on with the spinning, would require much better focus but you can see the seeing effect on the rings.

And a very short loop of Mars in IR here at the end of the night just before the clouds.

Hi Marc

Well you are certainly getting an excellent image scale and by the look of these, focus looks to be okay and any image quality issues are more likely to be attributed to the local seeing conditions.

What focal length are you imaging at for these shots?

Cheers

Probably seeing as well but I need to take the guess work out of the focus. I'm trying to work out a quantitative, repeatable way to do it.

I haven't measured exactly as I've been changing filters and adapters quite often but in general I'm between 7.9m and 8.2m.

Wow - I haven't poked my head above 5000 mm yet with my Mewlon 210, never had the seeing to support it.

Must give the longer fl a go on a better night.

Cheers

Well I guess you still can down sample during processing. Imaging at long FL was good training to fine tune the mount and get a routine going with centering and tracking. BTW I installed 50:1 gearboxes now on the mount and it's got nearly double the torque at sidereal rate and is so much smoother to move and center. Here's a pic of the new motor pinion. They're so tiny.
