Colour camera advice

G'day

Born again newbie here....

I'm thinking about a new CCD. This time I think I'll go for colour for a few reasons....
1. I don't seem to be able to produce a decent LRGB image to save my life.
2. I would like to be able to get comets in colour
3. I'd like to be able to use the cam to try for bright objects/planets with a Dob.
4. My Atik 428EX still works fine, so I'll still use it at times (perhaps!)

So with the above in mind I need some help choosing. I'm pretty happy with the smallish sensors I've been using, so don't really feel like wrestling with my (temperamental) fast newt with a large sensor, a hate crime could eventuate I fear!

I've browsed Bintels catalog, and keep coming back to the ZWO-ASI183MC.

https://www.bintel.com.au/product/zw...ronomy-camera/

Seems to fit the bill, and the price looks ok.

My plans - use this on a 200mm f/4 newt, and maybe an ED80. If I can't tame the newt soon I'll start looking at a different refractor I think, something like an ED120 or an Esprit. I'd also like to be able to use it through a Dob at planets or bright comets.

Sound OK??
Is there anything else I should be reading about?

Thanks in advance.....
PS I'll be asking for help from the fast-newt brains trust soon I think.....

Due to similar reasons I too run an OSC - in my case the APS-C sized sensor SX M26C. I just listed a mono setup as I simply have no time for filtered imaging - all or nothing in my case

I can’t comment on the ZWO camera but can highly recommend the SX M26C or M25C (if you can find one!)

Lee,
I went for an ASI 183mm for solar...
Great camera compared well against my ASI 174 but end up returning it due to "issues" with Ha fast frame imaging. (replaced by an ASI 1600)
Notwithstanding that, ZWO do a good job with their cameras.
The smaller pixels (2.4 micron) on the ASI 183 would favour shorter focal lengths.....

What was the issue? I do have a solar Ha scope, to be honest I haven't used it much (I get too hot! )....

Lee,
The ASI suffered badly from banding/ artifacts that ZWO acknowledged were are specific issue with the camera when imaging in narrow band H alpha for solar.
The ASI 174 and the ASI 1600 are working very well on solar.
I’m happy.
