Sagittarius Star Cloud

Pretty picture time. First time imaging in ages and no planning went into this as was distracted by nosy neighbours and beers when I should have been thinking about what to image.

Centered around the open cluster NGC6603, itself pretty much hidden by the star cloud, I found this area really interesting.

You have the open cluster, a number of Dark nebular including B92 and 93 close to centre, then an emission nebula (IC1284), centre left with a couple of reflection nebula below, the rest besmirched by stars with ribbons of Ha threaded throughout. M17 is just off frame bottom right if you are looking for context.

Would like to look more at the IC1284 with a longer focal length if time allows.

Processed in PI, Drizzle integration.

It’s a wonderfully busy part of the sky that you’ve captured there David. I can see the cluster in the centre just fine. Thanks for sharing.

I recall imaging this same region recently - your stars colours are beautiful!

Composition is not strong though, seems there's no real focal point

Well worth revisiting with your gear though, it's got heaps of potential

Hi Andy, yeah, was taken by surprise in terms of just being ready to image and didn’t out much thought, just centred round the cluster. But as you say, definitely worth another crack next year. Glad you like the stars 🌟
